These types of batteries are found everywhere in our modern life, from phones, tablets, laptops and camera, as well as in toys, electric scooters, drones, and power tools. And when a lithium battery overheats and catches fire, it comes with a risk of explosion unless tackled quickly.

The Lith-Ex fire extinguisher is manufactured in Great Britain and is a world first. In fact, it is so revolutionary that it uses a new type of extinguishing agent - AVD (Aqueous Vermiculite Dispersion). Non-toxic and environmentally friendly, the extinguisher produces a mist which then creates an instantly-drying film over the surface of the fuel. This then works by forming an oxygen barrier, as well as cooling the area and preventing re-ignition. Note that an ABC powder extinguisher will not extinguish battery fires.

As yet, no standard exists for extinguishing a Lithium-Ion battery, but you can still rest assured that it is manufactured in accordance with BS 6165:2002 for aerosol extinguishers.

Safe to use on Class A fires such as wood, paper and cloth, it is also suitable for use on live electrical equipment up to 35kV and has a three-year lifespan.
