When it comes to choosing the speed ramp you want to install in your car park or private road, you need to start by considering the vehicles which will be driving over them every day, and the speed you them to travel at.
50mm speed bumps are designed to be driven over at 10mph. If you go any faster, it’ll be very uncomfortable for drivers and passengers. Our 10mph speed bump is only designed for lighter vehicles such as cars and vans.
70mm speed bumps will slow vehicles down to 5mph. With heavy-duty designs, they’re also great for any application, including HGV lorries and smaller vehicles.
Where Shall I Install My Speed Bumps?
You’ll often notice speed bumps in areas where vehicles drive too fast or where traffic and pedestrians interact. These are frequently placed at entrances, close to pedestrian crossings, and in car parks at warehouses, factories, offices, schools, hospitals, construction sites and other industrial and commercial premises.
You should also think about vehicles turning on a speed bump, as this causes discomfort to those in the car, increases the risk of stalling and may also slowly damage the bumps. To avoid this, place the bumps away from junctions.

Which speed bump do I need?
The right choice depends on the vehicles using your site and the speed reduction you need. The 10mph speed bump is suited to lighter vehicles like cars and vans, and is the most common choice for car parks, offices, schools, and commercial premises. The 5mph speed bump is heavy-duty and suitable for all vehicle types including HGVs and lorries, and is suitable for industrial sites, warehouses, and loading areas. Note that 10mph speed bumps are only suitable for private roads - they are not permitted on public highways.
Are these speed bumps compliant with UK regulations and within the maximum permitted height?
Yes. Regulations state speed bumps must be a minimum of 25mm and a maximum of 100mm in height. The speed bumps in this range are 50mm and 70mm. These products are designed for private land use, which means no Traffic Regulation Order or local authority approval is required for installation.
How durable are these speed bumps and what maintenance do they require?
The speed bumps in this range are manufactured from weatherproof rubber, which is inherently resistant to UK weather conditions and doesn't corrode or degrade the way concrete alternatives can. Regular inspections are recommended to check for wear, and to ensure reflective markings remain clean and visible. If a section becomes worn or damaged, the modular design means individual sections can be replaced without removing the entire installation.
