LifeVac Anti-Choking Travel Kit
LifeVac Anti-Choking Travel Kit
Choking incidents become lethal quickly, a problem which is only exacerbated when you’re travelling, especially if you’re doing so alone. LifeVac’s Anti-Choking Travel Kit is designed to give peace of mind over these exact concerns. The kit includes a compact travel bag, as well as LifeVac’s patented anti-choking device and a selection of face masks to use with it.
Whether on wheels or on foot, there’s a good chance that you are far from or hard to reach for emergency services, or that there is no one with first aid training around. In either case, a choking incident is probable to lead to death or at least serious injury if you don’t have some other way to deal with it.
We trust LifeVac and the reliability of their product, but we are still obliged to put forth the official advice: call the emergency services and ensure that, if possible, standard medical techniques (e.g the Heimlich manoeuvre) have been attempted before using the device. In the cases of travel, especially if you are quite isolated, it could very well be reasonable to use the LifeVac shortly after calling an ambulance, as it may be obvious that they won’t reach you quickly.
Here’s a quick guide on the use of the LifeVac® Anti-choking Device:
- Start by choosing the correctly-sized mask for the casualty and attach to the base of the device (the yellow ring)
- Position the mask so that the top is just above the bridge of the nose, and the bottom is below the lower lip but above the chin
- Hold the mask in place with your non-dominant hand and use your dominant one to depress the bellows
- As soon as the bellows are fully depressed, pull the handle back swiftly to generate the suction that removes the object
- Repeat the two previous steps until successful or until emergency services arrive
- Note: The casualty should always be in a rigid position, either standing, sitting, or lying before using the LifeVac on them
If you want a more detailed look at the device’s operation, then click on the tab labelled ‘Training Videos’ to view official LifeVac content. On a similar note, the kit includes a multilingual instruction booklet, which gives illustrated instructions that anyone should be able to follow. There is also a window sticker that should be placed somewhere prominent, such as your vehicle’s windscreen, especially if you’re outfitting it for public transport. When standard procedure fails and the ambulance is too far for comfort, the LifeVac Anti-Choking Travel kit is exactly what you want to have on hand.
