What are fixings and fittings?

A question worth answering, while you’re here. Fixings and fittings are almost identical in their definitions, and relate to any mechanism employed in the joining of other components. Such mechanisms would be screws, nails, and bolts, among many other well-known examples.

What’s the difference between fixtures and fittings?

Fixtures relate to something outside of what this category is about. They are permanently fixed objects in a building or property, whereas fittings are the movable version of this. Suffice to say, this is not the definition of fitting that we are using here, so refer to the above question for the one you need to worry about, and you can forget about fixtures entirely while you’re here.

What’s the difference between fastenings and fixings?

Almost nothing, both are fittings, it’s just that fixings are intended to be extremely secure and long-lasting (though not necessarily permanent), while fastenings are still meant to be secure, they are used with the intention of being removed or adjusted with ease.
