Multi-message Sign Rules
You probably noticed some of the multi-message signs already. These have the very special quality of displaying several safety messages on one sign, allowing you to consolidate a multitude of important information into a single focal point, helping to alleviate potential sign clutter. By adhering to the design principles of BS EN ISO 7010:2020, these signs are made to produce the highest possible level of message comprehension.
Multi-message signs allow different safety categories to be displayed together on the same sign, either vertically or horizontally. But what you won’t find on one of these signs is two different categories crossing over in one message; the messages are separate, they just exist on the same sign. Basically, you wouldn’t see a symbol from one category attached to a message from another, the symbol would have an accompanying message from its own category, while the message would be next to a symbol from its own as well. This should be consistently observable across all multi-message signs.
No Smoking: Your Business and the Law
If you are a business owner, you are legally required to implement measures that prevent people from smoking both on your premises and in your vehicles. No smoking signs will help you effectively enforce smoke-free policies that your employees and visitors can’t ignore. The signs are a requirement on any premises that employs staff or allows public access, and they must be at least A5 in size. Smaller signs do exist, however, and may be used in designated staff-only areas; this applies to areas already outfitted with a larger sign as well.
On this page, you will find a few different multi-message signs that contain no-smoking notices. These cater specifically to areas where flammable materials are being kept, and are paired with a similar ‘No Naked Lights’ message on the same sign. This does differ a little from the standard use of generic no-smoking signs, but they are a popular choice nonetheless, hence their presence here. The value of these specific signs is that they provide an essential notice for circumstances where smoking is perhaps its most immediately dangerous.
Caution, Warning, and Danger Signs
In some cases, those triangular yellow signs catch your eye better than the bright red ones. Though that has a lot to do with the symbols and words that they display. When there is a text label attached, there will always be one of three words dominating the space. These words are always the most prominent on the sign, and can be used to effectively discriminate between hazard levels in a risk-abundant environment.
The least severe in meaning is Caution. This indicates a low-level risk that could lead to minor injury. Really, this is intended to keep your responsibilities as a business or property owner in check rather than to save lives. You’ll want these placed around more for potential hazards rather than anything that can cause serious harm. At the top of this trio is Danger. It indicates high-level risks that could result in death or serious injury. The use of this keyword should be limited to the most hazardous cases.
In the middle of these two is Warning, which indicates a medium-level risk that could result in minor or moderate injury. This can relate to quite harmful materials, and is possibly the most common of the three classifications, seeing as it is also used to signify fire hazards.
