According to these regulations, all cable fixtures – not just fire alarm wiring or the cabling along escape routes – are now required to be fire resistant.
The reason for this revision of the codes is to combat firefighter deaths caused when they are trapped by falling overhead cabling. This puts the onus on electricians and the construction industry as they are ultimately responsible for complying with the latest requirements. The 18th Edition fire cable clip is designed to fix any cables between 6mm and 11mm securely in place, even during a fire, and is available in single and twin cable versions. Available in packs of 100 clips.
How Do Fire Clips Work?
The 18th Edition fire cable clip’s unique design worsk to accelerate the installation process, making it up to three times faster than regular methods. This is because they require less drilling and zero screwing to install, so reducing labour costs while enabling a tidy finish. Simply drill a 5.5mm diameter hole, slide the clip over the cable so that it sits in the rounded area, push the clip ends together, and manually place the clip into the drill hole.
The clip features ‘teeth’ on each leg ensuring superior grip and giving you peace of mind that the clip and cable will remain firmly in position regardless of the circumstances. The 18th Edition fire cable clip can be used on brick, concrete, masonry, blockwork, stone, wood, and plasterboard. The manufacturer’s recommended space between clips is 300mm.
Approvals
The 18th Edition fire cable clip is manufactured by Linian and carries multiple approvals. The clip complies with regulation BS 8519:2010 and meets the recommendations for Fire Rated Cable Fixings BS7671 Amendment 3. It has a melting point of over 1000°C and can handle tensile loads of up to 244N, meaning it can support a load equivalent to a bag of cement. What’s more, the clip is smoke emission tested to London Underground Standard BSEN50200 and reliably resists fire for between 90 and 120 minutes as per regulation DIN4102-12.
